Dr. Kathy Escamilla

Kathy Escamilla is a Professor in the Division of Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She has been in the field of Bilingual/ESL Education for over 38 years and has been a classroom teacher, a school administrator and professor. She does research on Spanish language and literacy development and assessment of Spanish speaking Latino children in U.S. schools. She is particularly interested in issues related to the development of bilingualism and biliteracy in this population. She has served on the National Early Literacy Panel, on the National Hispanic Advisory Council for the National Center for Family Literacy. She is currently working on Phase II of Literacy Squared®, a longitudinal biliteracy research intervention designed for Spanish speaking simultaneous bilingual children.
